This is a Waterman 52 mottled red hard rubber lever fill pen and pencil set c1925. Waterman offered six holder sizes, with the 52 being the second smallest. It's 5 5/16 inches long capped and the matching pencil is 5 3/16. The pen has a Number 2 14 karat gold nib. Note the Ideal Globe Mark on the clip and lever. It sold for $4.00 in 1925. The riveted clip, lever and cap band are gold filled. The pencil operates by twisting the cone tip and refills by removing the cap top.

This Conklin Nozac might be considered very uncommon or even rare. This is a Conklin Nozac 5000 word Chevron design in Red Pearl c1937. The Chevron was the final version of the Nozac and came in four colors, Black, Red Pearl, Gray Pearl and Green Pearl, and two sizes, 7000 word and the slimmer 5000 word shown here. Both pens were the same length, about 5 1/4 inches long. What makes this pen special is the section is also made with the Chevron celluloid. The majority of these pens have black sections. These pens were probably made only in 1937 or only for a short time after. The 7000 word Chevron pens sold for $7.50 and the 5000 word pens sold for $5.00. Matching pencils were $3.50. This is an Eagle Prestige Black in the slimmer size that comes with a 14 karat gold Number 4 nib, c1939. The design was an improvement on bulb fill fountain pens such as the Postal Reservoir Pen. Eagle submitted Benjamin W. Hanle's patent for the design on March 11, 1938 and patent 2,170,242 was awarded on August 22, 1939, which indicates that the Prestige was probably introduced in the 1938 to 1939 timeframe. Inside the translucent barrel is a clear cylindrical ink chamber attached at one end to the nib section and with a short rubber sac at the other. This unit is not flush with the barrel, allowing airflow around the ink chamber through two grommeted holes in opposite sides of the barrel. The pen fills by removing the barrel end cap revealing a paddle-like lever that squeezes the ink sac. These are very uncommon pens that came in two widths, the wider pen with a Number 6 nib and this model with a Number 4, both being about 5 3/16 inches long capped. They came in black, brown web and marble paneled, golden brown stripe, green stripe, silver web, green brick, and olive marbled striped patterns. Several elaborate gold plated cap bands were used, including repeating arrows, a repeating angled T pattern, and a repeating teardrop with triangle cutout.

It probably dates c1940. Early examples follow the designs of the pens made in Toledo, like this set. It's has Chicago and Endura stamped on the barrel, bridging the old and the new. The 5 1/4 inch long pen has the 1935 patent clip and the 14 karat gold Cushon Point nib. The Conklin Crest appears below the clip on both the pen and pencil, another nod to earlier Toledo made pens. It does not have the patent stamped Crescent tipped lever, indicating that Toledo made parts were probably starting to be used up. Original selling prices and other available materials other than black are unknown.

The constellation, large size, and regular size stars are all in gold, to harmonize with the clip and trim. The planet Jupiter is crafted out of Classic Pens Marble White diffusion bonded acrylic. Paul selects the plugs from the material, so the inlayed Jupiter looks very similar to the real aspect of the planet. Retail is set at $2,750 for these very limited run pens.
